ABOUT
Flyback Productions was founded in 2003 in Chicago and specializes in non-fiction storytelling — from commercial video to independent documentary. Over the years, Flyback has created work for clients including Ford, the Illinois Holocaust Museum, the Wit Hotel, Vh1, Letters Charity, NBC, Investopedia, the Cure Canavan Fund, Washburn Guitars, the Chicago JCC, Myrtelle, Inc., and many more companies, nonprofits, and collaborators.
In 2021, Flyback was commissioned by Dayton Children’s Hospital to document a year-long conjoined twin separation. The resulting 60-minute film earned Flyback its first Emmy in 2023.
Flyback’s director and cinematographer, Ryan Ferguson, has also worked extensively behind the camera for other creators — shooting a network reality pilot, a CNN series on psychedelic medicine, political ads including two for Senator Tammy Duckworth (one featuring President Obama), a national TV spot for Wilson Tennis, and several independent documentaries. He also collaborates regularly with Little Cabin Films, whose founder Nick Nummerdor has produced two of Flyback’s feature docs.
Beyond client work, Flyback’s core has always been independent documentary. Past projects include a film about Chicago teens finding freedom through skateboarding, a behind-the-scenes portrait of comedian Hannibal Buress at an international arts festival, and an ongoing documentary following a gene therapy clinical trial to cure a rare and fatal disease. What connects them all is a shared commitment to sensitivity, empathy, and artistry. Flyback’s work has screened at festivals, aired on television, and streamed globally.
